IND vs SL 2nd T20I: Dhananjaya, Bhanuka lead Sri Lanka to 4-wicket win over depleted India, level series 1-1 – A depleted India succumbed to a 4-wicket loss after Dhananjaya de Silva and Minod Bhanuka led Sri Lanka to chase a modest 132 with two balls left. Chamika Karunaratne’s cameo of 12 runs also helped. With this win, Sri Lanka has levelled the three-match series at 1-1. The final game will be played on Thursday.

Chasing 133, Sri Lanka got off to a bad start as Avishka Fernando (11) was sent back to the pavilion by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the second over of the innings. Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 8 runs from 12 balls and his struggle finally ended in the 7th over as Varun Chakravarthy clean bowled him, reducing Sri Lanka to 39/2.

In the last three overs, Sri Lanka required 28 runs for the win, and de Silva along with Chamika Karunaratne ensured that the hosts get over the line.

IND vs SL 2nd T20: Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with a knock of 40 runs as India posted 132/5 in the allotted 20 overs. Sent into bat first, India got off to a steady start as openers Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad put on 45 runs inside the first six overs. The first-wicket stand of 49 runs finally came to an end on the final delivery of the seventh over as Gaikwad (21) was sent back to the pavilion by Dasun Shanaka.

IND vs SL 2nd T20: Sanju Samson (7) also failed to leave a mark and India were struggling to post a respectable score on the board.

The home side has seized its golden opportunity and unlike the ODI series have forced a result against a dead rubber ahead of tomorrow’s final T20I. With nearly half of its mainstream stars out of the squad, India failed to get enough runs on the board and that well turned out to be the decisive factor. The bowlers managed to chip in with wickets and trouble Sri Lanka but not enough to defend on the board despite conducive conditions.

Shikhar Dhawan said in the Interview “The surface had turned and it was stopping a bit. Of course, we knew one batsman was short and we knew we had to construct the innings smartly and we had to content ourselves at some point. But yeah, we were 10-15 runs short.”

Dasun Shanaka said while giving an interview after winning the match “I thought if we could contain them to a low total, we could chase it. We were not able to capitalise in the first six overs. But de Silva and Wanindu Hasaranga bailed us out. I should thank the BCCI and SLC for this opportunity because this is a huge opportunity for young guys in Sri Lanka to play against India.”
