India defeated Western Australia XI 145 for 8 (Fanning 59, Arshdeep 1-6, Bhuvneshwar 2-26) by 13 runs in their first practice game before the T20 World Cup, which took place in Perth on Monday.

Suryakumar Yadav continued his good form as the Indian team defeated the Western Australia Cricket Association XI by 13 runs.

The Indian team wanted to get used to the speed and bounce of the track during its three days of training at the WACA. In the allotted 20 overs, they got 158 for 6, and the WACA XI got 145 for 8 in their 20 overs.

Rishabh Pant started the game for the visitors instead of KL Rahul, the captain’s regular partner. However, Suryakumar’s 35-ball 52 was the innings’s highlight, as a few hundred fans appreciated his fluid strokeplay. During his round, he made three fours and sixes, and the pace and bounce of the track never appeared to be able to challenge the world number one.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who scored 27 runs off 20 deliveries, was the other man who made a significant contribution. Recently recovered from injury, Deepak Hooda contributed with 22 runs off 14 balls.

In the powerplay prior to Suryakumar’s intervention, India were 28 for 2. India reached 129 for 5 with his wicket in the 18th over, but the final 16 balls produced 29 runs and brought them closer to the 160-run mark.

As Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh basically destroyed the top-order of the home team during the powerplay, defending the total against a WACA XI wasn’t too hard. In the third over, WACA XI were reduced to 12 for 4, and they never recovered.

With impressive figures of 3 for 6 from three overs, Arshdeep was the best Indian bowler on display. Bhuvneshwar (2 for 26) and Yuzvendra Chahal (2 for 15) also contributed.

Before travelling to Brisbane for two official T20 World Cup warm-up matches against Australia and New Zealand, India plays its next practice game against the same team on October 13.
