in 2024, the Indian cricket team achieved a huge milestone by winning the ICC T20 World Cup trophy after a long wait of 17 years. However, the year also had its lows, as they experienced a historic setback by losing a three-match Test series on home soil for the first time ever. The year ended on a disappointing note as India suffered a loss in the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), marking their first defeat there since 2011. Still, fans are looking forward to the cricketing action planned for 2025, despite the ups and downs of the previous year. Let’s take a look at what’s in store for India’s cricket lineup next year.
India will kick off 2025 with a New Year's Test against Australia in Sydney on January 3, which wraps up the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. After this, the Test team will have a short break before the spotlight turns to the shorter formats. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the T20 team as they face England in five T20I matches. Following those matches, India will start a three-match ODI series, all set to happen right before the ICC Champions Trophy.
India's cricket team will dive straight from the Indian Premier League (IPL), starting on March 14 and ending in late May, into the Champions Trophy, a major event scheduled for around mid-year. Interestingly, while Pakistan is the official host, India's matches will take place in Dubai, which should be exciting for fans. The tournament will feature a variety of games.
World Test Championship (WTC) Final:** If India qualifies, they’ll compete in the WTC final at Lord’s on June 11. - **England Test Series:** India will take on England in a five-match Test series starting June 20. - **Asia Cup (T20 Format):** India will host the T20 version of the Asia Cup in October.
From August to December, India has a busy schedule with 13 T20Is lined up in various bilateral series, along with the Asia Cup matches.
