The visitors have never managed to chase 200 runs in England in the fourth innings.
England’s innings revolved around skipper Joe root, who scored 109 off 172 balls with 14 boundaries for his 21st Test century. With him at the crease, it looked like England would manage to set a target in excess of 250 but Bumrah dismissed him after tea as the seventh man. A few lusty blows from Ollie Robinson (15) and Sam Curran (32) took England’s lead to beyond 200.
The 30-year-old Root was the lone ranger for England even as other batsmen squandered starts. In fact, the next best individual score was Curran’s.
England, who resumed on 25/0, lost two early wickets, i.e. before they could reach fifty.
Opener Rory Burns was dismissed for 18, caught behind off Mohammed Siraj while No. 3 batsman Zak Crawley was removed by Jasprit Bumrah for six.

However, Root played his shots, hitting 14 boundaries in his entire innings and shared an 89-run partnership with Dominic Sibley (28 off 133 balls). He then added 42 for the fourth wicket with Jonny Bairstow (30) and a further 34 with Daniel Lawrence (25) for the fifth wicket.
However, India kept chipping in with wickets to ensure that England doesn’t run away with the match.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan insisted the team drop Zak Crawley and Dom Sibley for the second Test against India and there is also the strong reason behind it that is Crawley managed to score only 6 runs with a lot of balls and Sibley could add up 28 runs on England’s total score without century from Joe root England would be in helpless condition thus they need to replace at least in the second test against India.
He also said that Joe root should prefer Haseeb and Dawid Malan as they already have some experience and talent thus they need space to ripe and bloom their glory.
“Zak Crawley could be a high-class Test match player but he’s not got enough runs,” Vaughan told BBC Test Match Special. “I wouldn’t play Crawley at Lord’s but he could well go to Australia.
Vaughan hailed Root, saying the century was ‘just pure’.
“That was a wonderful day of Test cricket. That hundred from Joe Root – we’ve seen him play plenty of magnificent innings but that was just pure.
“Those cover drives, the late cuts, the way he played the spinners and Ravindra Jadeja, it was fantastic.
“He would never admit it but he does carry this batting line-up. And it means he’s not always at his smiley, chirpy best. But he was back there today and it’s exactly what you want to see. And so on the Former captain of England Squad Michael Vaughan keep parsing root for his inspirational play against the Indian team on the 4th day of the Match.
