The India-Pakistan cricket rivalry is arguably the most fierce and richest of them all in sporting history. In the context of the ICC Champions Trophy, this one has spawned ageless battles that have richly colored the tournament's history.
India and Pakistan have engaged in conflict in 135 One Day Internationals (ODIs) up to February 2025. Pakistan has a lead of 73 victories, while India has won 57; five of the matches were no-result. Surprisingly, since 2010, India has demonstrated superiority by winning 12 out of 17 ODIs against Pakistan, with just four losses and one no-result.
In the ICC Champions Trophy, both the teams have contested against each other five times, and Pakistan has won three and India two.
2004 Group Stage | Pakistan emerged victorious by 3 wickets after a nail-biting encounter. |
2009 Group Stage | Pakistan defeated India by 54 runs, an impressive show by them |
2013 Group Stage | India conquered the match quite easily, scoring an 8 wicket win. |
2017 Group Stage | India continued its streak with another dominating 124-run victory. |
2017 Final Stage |
In an intense final showdown, Pakistan rewrote the script, defeating India by a broad margin of 180 runs and claiming the championship. |
The upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will bring back this fierce rivalry. Pakistan is organizing a big ICC event for the first time after 1996, with matches to be staged in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. As a response to political tensions, India did not want to play on Pakistan soil, thus the hybrid host model where some games are to be hosted in the UAE. The tournament begins with a match between Pakistan and New Zealand at Karachi.
The long-standing rivalry between these two teams has a strong presence on the platform promising suspenseful challenges and memorable experience on the sporting scene.
