Following last year’s hosting of England and Australia at the Wankhede Stadium, India’s women’s cricket team is set to face South Africa in a Test match during their upcoming home series in June. Chennai will witness its first women’s Test match since 1976, when West Indies played against India.
South Africa last played a Test match in India a decade ago, resulting in India securing an innings victory. The series will kick off with ODIs in Bengaluru on June 16th, 19th, and 23rd, marking the commencement of the 2022–2025 ICC Women’s Championship. After the ODIs, Chennai will stage the four-day Test from June 28th to July 1st, followed by a three-match T20I series.

On the last tour, in the third T20i between India and Australia, Australia Women chased down a target of 148 runs in just 18.4 overs to defeat India Women by seven wickets, securing a 2-1 victory in the three-match T20I series. Richa Ghosh’s rapid 34 runs spared India Women from a disappointing total as they reached 147 for six against Australia in the decisive third T20I.
Despite a strong start by Shafali Verma (26) and Smriti Mandhana (29), India faltered, losing four wickets for six runs and reaching 66/4 at the halfway mark. However, Ghosh’s innings revitalized India’s innings, adding 81 runs in the latter half.
