Ravindra Jadeja has commenced his recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru following a hamstring injury suffered on day 4 of the 1st Test against England in Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. The all-rounder informed the team management of discomfort in his hamstrings after an outstanding fielding effort by England skipper Ben Stokes led to his run-out during the match.
Jadeja, displaying visible pain as he walked off the field, underwent initial scans in Hyderabad. Subsequent reports were sent to an institute in Mumbai, revealing a Grade A hamstring injury. Fortunately, the injury is categorized as a minor pull or strain, sparing Jadeja from more severe Grade B or C injuries. As a result, the 35-year-old will be sidelined for the 2nd Test in Vishakhapatnam, starting from February 2nd.
Not only did the all-rounder from Saurashtra, Ravindra Jadeja, depart Hyderabad with both a defeat and an injury, but right-handed batsman KL Rahul, filling in at number 4 for Virat Kohli, also reported quad pain to the team management, ruling him out of the 2nd Test.
In response, the selection committee swiftly announced three replacement players – Washington Sundar, Sourabh Kumar, and Sarfaraz Khan – for Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul. While it’s evident that either Sundar or Kuldeep Yadav will likely feature in the playing XI, the team management faces the crucial decision of choosing between Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz Khan for the number 4 position.
“Mr. Ravindra Jadeja and Mr. KL Rahul have been ruled out of the second IDFC First Bank Test against England in Vizag, starting February 02, 2024. Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury during play on Day 4 of the first Test in Hyderabad while Rahul complained of a right quadriceps pain. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring the progress of the duo.” – a BCCI press release read.
Ravindra Jadeja Updates Instagram with NCA’s Poster, Signaling His Recovery Journey. As he focuses on rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy, the Rahul Dravid-led management and Captain Rohit Sharma face the challenge of selecting the most fitting replacement for Jadeja.
The direct replacement for Ravindra Jadeja would be Washington Sundar, an all-rounder proficient with both bat and ball. Alternatively, if India aims to incorporate wrist spin in the 2nd Test against England, Kuldeep Yadav emerges as the primary option. Regardless, replicating the left-hander’s skill set is a challenge, and the team’s resilience will be tested as they strive to bounce back from these setbacks.
