The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to make several key changes in the guidelines for the next foreign tours after the Indian team suffered defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The new rules are big blows for the cricketers. 

After the disappointing performances in the recent Test series, the BCCI held a review meeting with the officials, captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. 

For the long foreign tours, Indian cricketers could previously bring their families, like wives, children, parents, etc. The family members could stay with the players for the whole tour.

Possible new rules: Wife can't stay for the entire foreign tour

However, according to recent media reports, the cricketer’s family members can’t stay with the players for the complete foreign tour. The reports added that the family members can stay for two weeks or 14 days on a 45-day foreign tour. Meanwhile, for the lesser foreign tours, the family members can stay only for a week. 

There is also the report for mandatory traveling in the team bus for every player, as separate traveling isn’t allowed during the matchday. 

After suffering a historic whitewash in the three-match home Test series against New Zealand, India recently lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia. India lost the five-match away Test series against Australia by 3-1. Despite winning the first Test of the series by a record margin of 295 runs, India suffered defeats in Adelaide (day-night pink-ball Test), Melbourne, and Sydney, while the Brisbane Test (after the Adelaide Test) had a draw result due to massive rain interruptions. 

India will tour in England this June

India will travel to England for a five-match Test series this June, which will be part of the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship. If the reports are true, we can see the restricted family rules in the upcoming England tour.
