The much-awaited IPL 2023 is just around the corner and will commence on March 31. The IPL 2023 will feature 74 matches with the group and playoff stage. The first match of the league will be played between defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Here we see how teams have gathered there squads for the upcoming edition, IPL 2023 Players List.

On December 23 in Kochi, 405 cricketers were auctioned off for the IPL 2023. Ten teams initially shortlisted 369 players, but 36 more players were later requested and were included in the final list. 273 of the 405 cricket players are Indian, 132 are from abroad, and 4 are from associate countries.

1. Chennai Super Kings(CSK)

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is one of the most successful franchises in the history of IPL as they have qualified for the playoffs 11 out of the 12 times and have four IPL titles to their name. Following a disastrous IPL 2022 season, where they finished at the 7th spot in the points table, the MS Dhoni-led outfit will look to reclaim their lost glory in the forthcoming season in IPL 2023.

Chennai Super Kings

As is always the case whenever a franchise endures a poor season, the Super Kings released as many as eight players from their 2022 squad, including veteran batsman, Robin Uthappa and champion all-rounder DJ Bravo who will take over as their bowling coach.

2. Mumbai Indians(MI)

The MI team failed miserably in the 2022 edition of the IPL. They were ranked at the bottom of the table, in 10th place. The five-time champion will try to turn that around and lift their sixth trophy under the captaincy of the capable Rohit Sharma. In an attempt to reconstruct their team, Mumbai Indians released as many as 13 players from their squad.

Mumbai Indians released a number of match-winners and they have been in a restructuring phase since. Their ability to groom Indian talent is the franchise’s USP and thus, they went for quite some new talent this year.

3. Gujarat Titans(GT)

Gujarat Titans had a sensational start to their IPL journey last year as the Hardik Pandya-led outfit scripted history by clinching the coveted trophy in their debut season. While Hardik spearheaded the team with both and ball, GT found new match-winners in nearly every game, with the likes of Rashid Khan, David Miller, Shubman Gill, Rahul Tewatia, Abhinav Manohar, etc coming to the party.

The Titans released 4 players ahead of the IPL 2023 auction besides trading fast bowler Lockie Ferguson and opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz to KKR. Gujarat Titans have a solid line-up post the auction as they went for 7 buys today, where they picked players from all spheres of the game. The defending champions went for 7 players to be added to their squad for the IPL 2023.

4. Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB)

The three-time IPL finalists will enter the IPL 2023 season with not too many changes in their squad. Some top-notch performances in the previous season like Wanindu Hasaranga (26 wickets at 16.53) and Dinesh Karthik (330 runs at a strike rate of 183.33) are rewarded with retention contracts. South Africa star batter Faf du Plessis will continue to lead the franchise in his second season.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore stepped into the auction with a formidable line-up of 18 players who they had retained. Initially, they were pretty quiet, but then made some quick-fire bids and picked up seven players in the auction. RCB already have a powerful batting attack, so they went for the bowlers and all-rounders to give a balanced shape to their squad of 25 players for the upcoming IPL 2023 season.

5. Lucknow Super Giants(LSG)

Although the 2022 IPL season was their debut season, the LSG team did brilliantly under the captaincy of KL Rahul. They won 9 out of their 14 matches which made them sit in the third position in the points table. Although LSG reached the playoffs, they lost their first match in the Eliminator against RCB.

This time around, they will try to go all the way and lift the IPL 2023 trophy with some fresh entrants into their squad. LSG will look to make it big in their second season and win the gold. They have purchased players from the fresh Indian pool, as well as a young Afghan cricketer. They’ll have a huge experience on their side in the form of spinner Amit Mishra who can be one of those match-winners for the franchise this IPL 2023.

6. Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH)

Sunrisers Hyderabad, a team that was seen as the underdogs in its early years turned out to be the one with the most lethal bowling attack, which could defend even the lowest of totals! In 2016, the Orange Army even rose to glory by winning their maiden IPL trophy.

Since then, the Hyderabad side has gone through a lot of ups and downs in recent years. Talking of the previous edition of the tournament, SRH ended up in the 8th position with 6 wins and 8 losses. The team is going through a transition phase in its squad with the search for a new skipper for IPL 2023. SRH had 13 slots available for the next season with over INR 40 crore in their purse. They would be aiming this year to be better in IPL 2023 season.

7. Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR)

The Kolkata Knight Riders are one of those teams who seem strong on paper, but miss out on the field when it matters the most. The Shahrukh Khan-owned team is a 2-time IPL champion, having won the titles in 2012 and 2014. Aiming to bring a great comeback this IPL 2023. They came close to the feat in IPL 2021 when they reached the final, but missed out on securing their third championship after a loss to the Chennai Super Kings.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Come 2022, the Knight Riders brought in a big change in their leadership by appointing the explosive Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer as the captain of the side. KKR had a pretty rough 2022 season as they ended up 7th on the points table and failed to qualify for the playoffs. This IPL 2023, they released 16 players from their squad with a goal to transform and bring in match-winners into the side.

8. Punjab Kings(PBKS)

Punjab Kings have tried well to retain their core players for the forthcoming edition. The management chose experienced Shikhar Dhawan as the captain, who would take the team forward in IPL 2023. At present, they have 16 players and need to fill up nine slots, with three being overseas players. Moreover, they can shell out a maximum of INR 32.20 Crore to secure the services of nine players.

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings is known for their out-of-the-box approach in the IPL Auction. PBKS retained a total of 16 players from their previous squad of IPL 2022, with some star overseas players, Indian young guns have also been given opportunities in the IPL 2023 squad. This time again they justified their reputation as they splashed a whopping amount of INR 18.50 Cr for the England all-rounder Sam Curran.

9. Rajasthan Royals(RR)

Royals retained their key batters and bowlers with the winners of the Orange Cap (Jos Buttler) and Purple Cap (Yuzvendra Chahal) in IPL 2022 being the top retainers. The Sanju Samson-led side ended as runners-up of the previous edition after losing to IPL debutants Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. It was a great campaign by the Royals after a drastic change in their squad for this IPL 2023.

Rajasthan Royals

The Rajasthan Royals team management had the capacity to fill as many as 10 more spots in their squad. The Rajasthan outfit retained 15 players ahead of the IPL 2023 auction. The royals would strengthen their chances to finish in the top four in the next season as well. They have managed to hold on to the core unit in both batting and bowling.

10. Delhi Capitals(DC)

After narrowly missing out on the playoff berth in IPL 2022, the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) will look for an improved show in the forthcoming season. DC released 4 players ahead of the IPL 2023 auction. The 2020 finalists had a good outing at the auction where they picked up some explosive T20 players who can win it for them in the upcoming IPL 2023 season.

DC went on to add 5 more players to their squad in the IPL 2023 auction. They brought in some of the veterans of the IPL in the form of Manish Pandey who’ll be a good addition to their middle order. Alongside, Ishant Sharma also made his place in the side who has had huge success in the DC jersey over the years. Rilee Rossouw has bagged INR 4.6 crore who’ll strengthen their opening to a great extent.
