The Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced off against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Baraspara Stadium in Guwahati, Assam. However, the match concluded with PBKS securing a convincing victory, chasing down the target with five wickets in hand. This marks RR’s fourth consecutive loss in the tournament. Additionally, the match between DC and LSG proved advantageous for Rajasthan Royals, as they became the second team after KKR to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2024. In contrast, PBKS have already been eliminated from this season of the Indian Premier League.

Sanju Samson won the toss and elected bat first

RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a total of 144/9 in their allotted 20 overs. In response, PBKS chased down the target of 145 runs in 18.5 overs, securing a 5-wicket victory over RR. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tom Kohler-Cadmore opened the innings in the absence of Jos Buttler. Punjab Kings reintroduced Harpreet Brar to the team and gave Nathan Ellis an opportunity. PBKS skipper Sam Curran excelled both with the ball and the bat, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal in the very first over. Sam Curran steered PBKS to victory

Although PBKS had a challenging start, losing key wickets early on, Sam Curran emerged as the savior, remaining unbeaten on 63 runs off 41 balls with a strike rate of 153.66 against the Royals. Playing his last game of the season, PBKS skipper Sam Curran offered hope to his team amidst the loss of important wickets. The Rajasthan Royals bowlers maintained a tight grip, making it difficult to score runs. However, a pivotal moment came in the fifteenth over when Jitesh Sharma and Sam Curran smashed Ravichandran Ashwin for two sixes, shifting the momentum. Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Jitesh Sharma in his final over, breaking the dangerous partnership. Riyan Parag then caught Sam Curran after he scored 22 runs off 20 balls.
