Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is experiencing their worst ever IPL run this season. Despite losing five back-to-back matches, CSK batting coach Michael Hussey is optimistic about securing a playoff spot. Out of five defeats, CSK tasted the bitter part of the fruit when they met Kolkata Knight Riders yesterday (April 11) in MA Chidambaram Stadium. CSK, on their home ground, batting first, scored only 103 for 9 wickets in 20 overs, which left their bowlers almost empty to fight against the defending champion side. KKR won the match with ease in 10.1 overs and 8 wickets in hand.
Rather than the bowling part, it was the batting department where the five-time IPL champion team was falling short again and again. After losing 5 games in 6, it'll be a very difficult task for the team to get back on track and make their way to the playoffs. From the team's performance aspect, it is now seen as a barely makeable task, but from the calculation, CSK still has some hope left.
Michael Hussey, batting coach of CSK, did not want to lose his nerves so early; he is hoping for a comeback and then a playoff berth. "We are certainly not putting the white flag up just yet. You only have to get in to scrape into that fourth place. And a big, long tournament like the IPL, it is about momentum," the former Australian international said.

Michael Hussey acknowledged that the Chennai Super Kings are currently struggling with form and consistency in IPL 2025. He admitted the team hasn't played good cricket and lacks momentum. However, he expressed hope that things could change quickly with hard work and a few wins to boost confidence. Hussey remained optimistic about CSK’s chances of making it to the playoffs, stating that if they manage to shift the momentum, they might still secure one of the final spots on the points table.
"The momentum is not with us at the moment whatsoever. We haven't been playing good cricket consistently. We definitely acknowledge that, put our hands up, and say that that is a fact at the moment. But that's not to say things can't turn around and can't turn around quickly. So, that's what we're still hanging on to, and that's what we're working hard towards. And if we can change that momentum and get some confidence going and get a few wins on the board, the confidence will grow, and you never know. We might be able to scrape into one of those last positions at the table come playoff time. And it's a long way ahead, and we certainly need to change things around. But we still believe that we can do that," Michale Hussey added.
Lucknow Super Giants will host the next one for Chennai Super Kings on April 14 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
