The IPL 2025 Match 32 between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on April 16, 2025, ended in a thrilling Super Over, with DC emerging victorious
Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bowl first. Delhi Capitals showcased a quick start, reaching 46/2 within their powerplay segment before losing Jake Fraser-McGurk (7), followed by Karun Nair (10), early in the innings. Abishek Porel made 49 runs while KL Rahul scored 41 runs as they stabilized the innings during their batting. However, Porel failed to reach fifty. The batting attack gained momentum when Tristan Stubbs scored 41 from 20 deliveries and Axar Patel came in and hit 29 from 16 balls. RR experienced runs blowing in through the death overs due to shaky bowling from Sandeep Sharma, while Jofra Archer bowled tightly and Wanindu Hasaranga took two wickets. DC achieved synergy between their batting style and pitch conditions when they posted 188 runs for eight wickets with short boundaries against the target.
At the beginning of their chase, RR scored 48 runs without losing any wickets, while Yashasvi Jaiswal hit 43 runs and Sanju Samson accrued 38 before leaving the field due to injury. Nitish Rana kept RR moving forward by scoring 51 runs from 28 deliveries, while this partnership ended when Rana was dismissed and Riyan Parag finished with 29 runs when Starc bowled a yorker. The 2/25 figures by Kuldeep Yadav resulted in a slowdown of Rajasthan Royals' middle innings batting performance. During the last over of the game, Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel attempted an aggressive approach but lost the contest when Mitchell Starc struck a yorker to finish the over with a single score, leading to 188/7. The dramatic finale featured improper run-outs that resulted in a groundbreaking Super Over for the season.

Rajasthan Royals batted first, managing only 11/2 against Mitchell Starc’s pinpoint yorkers. A boundary from Shimron Hetmyer appeared as the second ball was dismissed, but Starc consistently restricted the scoring possibilities. Yashasvi Jaiswal ran out while attempting to reach the second run along the fifth ball, thus causing RR's batting to wrap up before time. A confident pursuit of 11 runs by Delhi Capitals had KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs successfully hitting key boundaries. DC secured victory with a ball to spare, showcasing composure. Starc’s exceptional bowling and the run-out earned him Player of the Match, sealing DC’s thrilling win

Sanju Samson (RR Captain): "The injury feels alright now; I was not prepared to bat again but will evaluate tomorrow. Our bowlers were awesome, particularly during challenging moments, displaying immense vigor. The 188 was a run chasable with our batting, but Starc's terrific bowling, particularly in the 20th over, edged DC to win the game. He is amongst the best and give credit to him.". Our strategy was to hit hard on his tempo. Sandeep Sharma has taken hard overs for us, and Archer played marvelous cricket, but Starc pushed it out. This victory would have imparted a sense of positivity into our dressing room."
Tristan Stubbs (DC): "Dropping that catch broke me, but winning it for my team was sensational. KL chilled me out, but I wasn't going to let it slide. I thought it was a slower bouncer, committed, and it came off. KL's advice on breathing and pressure management helped. Batting is going great, and these 2 points are massive. Momentum is everything, and we're coming back in style.
Axar Patel (DC Captain): "We might have displayed more intent up front, but batting was not easy; the ball hugged. I instructed the team to show intent, and we achieved a good score. The middle overs were important, and our conversation at the Strategic Time Out turned out well. Starc's 20th over and Super Over yorkers were match-turning. Leading by example with bat and ball gives me confidence."
Mitchell Starc (Player of the Match): "It's about doing the basics with a clear plan and some luck. I was consistent with my yorkers, and it paid off. The Super Over was tricky with left-handers, but I escaped with a wide. Our batting depth nailed it. It was an excellent game, and we emerged victorious."
