The 42nd match of the IPL 2025 season brought a thrilling showdown between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 24, 2025. Played in front of a packed stadium, the match lived up to its billing with electrifying performances and non-stop excitement that had fans on the edge of their seats.
Both teams showcased explosive batting displays and delivered some crucial bowling spells that swung the momentum back and forth throughout the game. From power-hitting to dramatic wickets, the match had all the elements of a classic IPL clash, keeping the crowd thoroughly entertained until the final ball.
RCB set the tone with a formidable total of 205/5 in their 20 overs. Virat Kohli had an excellent innings, scoring 70 runs from 42 balls, and struck a good balance between elegance and aggression. Devdutt Padikkal contributed a fine innings of 50 runs from 27 balls, and Phil Salt continued at 26 runs from 23. RCB had been losing wickets regularly, but their run rate was always very healthy. RR's bowlers Sandeep Sharma (2/45), Wanindu Hasaranga (1/30), and Jofra Archer (1/33) were all unable to make stops at the right time!
While chasing 206, RR were able to conjure up a defensive effort to score 194/9! Yashasvi Jaiswal played a quick innings of 49 runs from 19 deliveries to set them off well. Dhruv Jurel contributed with 47 runs from 24 balls, and Nitish Rana added 28 runs from 34 balls. However, RR's middle order was unable to respond again and submitted in the final overs to RCB. RCB's bowling attack of Josh Hazlewood (4/33), Krunal Pandya (2/31), and Yash Dayal (1/33) sealed the match by containing 11 runs from victory!

Josh Hazlewood (Player of the Match): Hazlewood said that he focused on sticking to hard lengths, which were difficult for batsmen to hit. He continued to mention his wonderful experience as part of teams like Sydney Sixers, Chennai Super Kings, RCB, and Australia. Important in the RCB bowling group was talking to each other and supporting each other in the bowling group. He noted the big bounce at Chinnaswamy and how the batsman scored 205 on a wicket that was defendable.
Rajat Patidar (RCB Captain): Patidar said that the bowlers showed courage to win after playing on an unexpected wicket. He said while RR had great batting, it was important to take wickets because this meant RCB could control the game, which turned out to be crucial towards the end.
Virat Kohli (RCB): Kohli said he was happy with the application of the guys and that they scored 205 on what he described as a tough pitch, compounded by the dew in the second inning. Virat described his role as anchor, supported by Devdutt Padikkal and David's finishing, before crediting the fans for their consistent support at Chinnaswamy.
Riyan Parag (RR Captain): Parag said the RR bowling was decent, but the batting was poor, especially against spinners, costing them the game. He stated intent was important, and learning from the mistakes made in the game was necessary, and pledged that in their future games, RR would play for pride and to keep the fans happy.
