The IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Match 31, was played on April 15, 2025, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur Chandigarh on April 15, 2025. The team of PBKS claimed victory by defending a 111-run total that remains the least successful score in IPL history.
Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to bat first. The first three overs started with intense batting as 22-year-old Priyansh Arya and 30-year-old Prabhsimran Singh accumulated 39 runs without losing a wicket. Harshit Rana dismantled the Punjab Kings batting line-up by dismissing Arya and Shreyas Iyer (0) in a double strike, which followed to result in 41/2. The match progressed to 63-4 when Prabhsimran departed in conjunction with Varun Chakravarthy sending Josh Inglis back to the dugout. Wadhera earned 10 runs, and Shashank Singh scored 18 points, including a six from one attempt, while fighting for their team against the opposition. Sunil Narine finished with 2 wickets for 14 runs, and Rana compiled 3 wickets for 25 runs to defeat Punjab Kings by 111 runs inside their 15.3 overs.
KKR began their chase of 112 by losing Sunil Narine (5) and Quinton de Kock (2) early and ended up at 7/2. The partnership of 55 runs between Rahane (17) and Raghuvanshi (37) stopped the wickets from falling as the score climbed to 62/2. The bowling performance of Yuzvendra Chahal (4/28) led to the downfall of Rahane and Raghuvanshi as it started a 76/7 collapse for KKR. Marco Jansen ended the fight with three wickets while dismissing Andre Russell, who hit 17* runs through two sixes to end KKR's hopes of victory. The PBKS batting line-up wrapped up the innings at 95 in 15.1 overs, while KKR finished 16 runs behind, resulting in PBKS capturing their first-ever ball defense challenge.
Against all odds, they did it! ❤#PBKS script a heroic win, defending just 111 runs in one of the most thrilling matches in IPL history! 👏

Ajinkya Rahane (KKR Captain): Rahane took total ownership of KKR’s batting collapse and regretted getting out LBW to Chahal, where he thought he’d missed a meaningful delivery. He admitted that 111 was a reachable target but called out reckless shot-making, saying that the pitch did not lend itself to using sweeps and that they “probably” needed to play some cricket shots. He called for positivity in the dressing room, particularly with half the tournament remaining, notwithstanding the loss.
Ricky Ponting (PBKS Head Coach): Ponting hailed the thrilling defense of 112, particularly when putting it in contrast to PBKS’s previous attempt to defend 246. He lauded Chahal’s “outstanding” spell, despite reporting a shoulder problem, payed respect to well-executed bowling changes, and called the match a moment-defining and one of the best moments of his coaching career.
Yuzvendra Chahal (Player of the Match): Chahal said he worked on creating positivity within the team, planning to take early wickets in innings on a turning pitch. After conceding 56 runs in his prior game, Chahal backed himself to bowl well in the middle overs, varying pace against Rahane, to achieve a pleasing low score winning impact.
Shreyas Iyer (PBKS Captain): Iyer described the unpredictable place (with low balls, and spin) and applauded the aggressive bowling executed by Chahal. Iyer noted the positive momentum build momentum from the early wickets and aggressive fields and said that gritty wins were important features of PBKS’ season.
