Punjab Kings (PBKS) unleashed a batting spectacle in Match 22 of IPL 2025, posting an imposing 219/6 in their first innings against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.

In the opening innings, Punjab Kings (PBKS) had a commanding 219/6 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur. Priyansh Arya stole the show with an incredible 39-ball century of 103 runs, including a hat-trick of sixes against Matheesha Pathirana, the joint fourth-fastest ton in IPL history. Despite wicket losses at the start of the innings, including Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer, PBKS staged a comeback with Arya's attack-minded bat and a 65-run seventh-wicket partnership between Shashank Singh (52* off 36) and Marco Jansen (34* off 19). CSK bowlers, especially Mukesh Choudhary and Pathirana, were unable to stem the tide of runs, with Noor Ahmad claiming Arya's wicket to seal his rampage. The innings set a formidable task, fueled by PBKS's depth and attacking mindset, despite losing five wickets for 83 runs in the eighth over.

Chennai Super Kings Innings

Pursuing a difficult target of 220, Super Kings got off to a good start with Devon Conway being the anchor man of the side with a well-timed 69 from 49 balls. Shivam Dube provided the punch in the middle overs with 42 from 27, maintaining the chase on. Through a fighting display from Rachin Ravindra, who had made 36 from 23, the Kings' bowling discipline limited them to 201/5. Lockie Ferguson and Glenn Maxwell bowled match-winning overs, taking the game away from Kings by 18 runs.

Post-Match Reactions - PBKS vs CSK

  • Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK Captain): He highlighted that dropped catches have cost them vital games, and batters such as Priyansh Arya have been able to score 30-40 additional runs. He complimented Priyansh's aggressive batting and believed that only 10-15 fewer runs would have made the difference. Gaikwad praised his team's better batting and stated that they were just a few hits away from reaching the target. He also justified the retirement of Conway, citing his issues with timing.

  • Shashank Singh (PBKS): Shashank told that his work was to stabilize Priyansh with low-risk batting when early wickets were lost. He credited Brian Lara and Ricky Ponting for the advice and was delighted at Priyansh's outstanding knock, terming him a promising prospect for the franchise as well as the country.
  • Shreyas lyer (Punjab Kings Captain): "This is going to be the template irrespective of the ground we play at. We've got varieties in the batting lineup and also strong hitters. They are great timers of the ball. Priyansh was scintillating to watch from outside. Out of this world sort of an innings."
