Shreyas Iyer, the talented middle-order batsman for Team India, has been given the all-clear after experiencing discomfort in his back during the Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha. Despite missing out on a century in the second innings of the final and sitting out the last two days of the match, Iyer has joined the Kolkata Knight Riders camp and even participated in an intra-squad T20 match.

According to a report…

the KKR skipper consulted with a spine specialist in Mumbai and underwent further examination at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. The doctor declared him fit to play but advised caution, particularly regarding stretching his leg while defending the ball.

Report said,“He is fit to play, a specialist spine doctor was consulted in Mumbai who has advised him not to stretch his leg too forward while defending the ball. He has joined IPL franchise KKR and he can play.”

This isn’t the first time Iyer has faced issues with his back. The problem first arose during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy last year, leading to surgery and his subsequent absence from IPL 2022. However, he made a successful comeback during the Asia Cup 2023, scoring 530 runs as India finished as runners-up.

He decided to stand with his team

More recently, during the Test series against England, Iyer once again experienced discomfort, leading to his withdrawal from the squad after the Vizag Test match.

In a somewhat contentious move, after being dropped from India’s Test squad, Iyer disregarded the BCCI’s directive to play in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals. Despite being declared fit by the NCA, he cited back stiffness. This decision led to consequences, with the BCCI removing him from the annual central contract list. This turn of events has marked a rapid shift for Iyer, who was a crucial part of India’s ODI World Cup team but now finds himself sidelined in just a matter of months.
