Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya faced a significant fine following his team’s slow over-rate offence during 48th match of Indian Premier League against Lucknow Super Giants.

Hardik Pandya’s Fine

Pandya was fined Rs 24 lakh for the slow over-rate offence, marking the second offence for Mumbai Indians in the IPL season. This fine reflects the seriousness with which the IPL enforces its rules regarding match conduct. All the other players, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees.

IPL’s Statement

The IPL released a statement regarding Pandya’s fine, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the minimum over-rate per the league’s Code of Conduct. The statement highlighted the consequences of repeated offences and the need for teams to adhere to the rules consistently.

“Mr Hardik Pandya, Captain, Mumbai Indians has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 48 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants on April 30, 2024,” the IPL said in a statement.

“As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 24 Lac. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 Lac or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” it added.

In the match against Lucknow Super Giants, Mumbai Indians struggled with their batting performance, scoring only 144 runs. Lucknow Super Giants, led by Marcus Stoinis’ impressive innings, chased the target with four wickets to spare.

IPL standings

With their sixth win in 10 games, Lucknow Super Giants climbed to the third spot in the IPL standings, consolidating their position in the tournament. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians’ loss further affected their standing, as they slumped to their seventh defeat in 10 games, remaining in the ninth spot in the standings.
