Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured their second victory of the IPL 2024 season with an impressive 28-run win over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Led by Quinton de Kock’s stellar 81 and supported by Nicholas Pooran’s explosive 40-run innings, LSG posted a challenging total of 181/5. Youngster Mayank Yadav’s remarkable three-wicket haul then played a pivotal role in restricting RCB to 153 all-out in 19.4 overs.

LSG’s decision to bat first paid off handsomely as openers Quinton de Kock and
captain KL Rahul provided a blistering start, notching up a quickfire 53-run
partnership for the first wicket. Their aggressive approach set the tone for
LSG’s innings and put pressure on the RCB bowlers right from the outset.
The momentum was momentarily halted when LSG skipper KL Rahul fell prey to
Glenn Maxwell after a brisk 20-run cameo off just 14 deliveries. Rahul’s
dismissal brought Devdutt Padikkal to the crease, who struggled to get going
and managed only 6 runs from 11 balls before being dismissed by Mohammed Siraj.
Meanwhile, Quinton de Kock continued his onslaught, anchoring the innings with
a splendid 81 off 52 balls. Marcus Stoinis played a valuable supporting role,
contributing 24 runs off 15 deliveries before falling victim to Maxwell’s
guile.
The highlight of LSG’s innings was Nicholas Pooran’s explosive batting display
in the latter stages. Pooran’s unbeaten 40 off just 21 balls provided the
finishing touches to the inning and propelled LSG to a formidable total of 181
runs.
In response, RCB’s chase got off to a promising start, with Virat Kohli and Faf
du Plessis stitching together a solid partnership. However, a flurry of
wickets, including Kohli’s dismissal for 22 runs, derailed RCB’s innings.
Mayank Yadav’s exceptional bowling performance, which included the key wickets
of Maxwell and Cameron Green, further compounded RCB’s woes.
Mayank Yadav emerged as the star performer for LSG, claiming three crucial
wickets to dismantle RCB’s batting lineup. His exceptional bowling display
earned him plaudits and played a decisive role in securing victory for his
team. Nicholas Pooran’s stunning direct hit to dismiss Mayank Dagar exemplified
LSG’s fielding prowess and capped off a comprehensive win. Mahipal Lomror, who added 33 runs off 13 balls was scalped by Yash Thakur.
