Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made significant moves during the IPL 2024 mini-auction in Dubai, securing the services of six players. Starting with a modest purse of ₹13.15 crore, the lowest among the 10 franchises, LSG had the task of filling six slots, including two overseas players.
The franchise kicked off their acquisitions by successfully bidding for Indian pacer Shivam Mavi, outbidding Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with a substantial ₹6.40 crore. Subsequently, LSG strategically added 18-year-old uncapped Indian all-rounder Arshin Kulkarni at his base price of ₹20 lakh. They also brought in Tamil Nadu’s left-arm spinner Manimaran Siddharth for ₹2.40 crore, previously associated with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC).
LSG’s international picks included Australian batter Ashton Turner, acquired for ₹1 crore, and English all-rounder David Willey, secured for ₹2 crore. The squad was finalized with the purchase of uncapped left-arm bowler Mohd Arshad Khan from Madhya Pradesh for ₹20 lakh in the accelerated round.
Before the IPL 2024 mini-auction, Lucknow Super Giants underwent a restructuring, parting ways with ten players. This included the release of eight players and trading Avesh Khan and Romario Shepherd to Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI), respectively.
Having played two IPL seasons, Lucknow Super Giants achieved playoff qualification on both occasions. However, their journey was cut short in a heartbreaking 81-run defeat to Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Eliminator of IPL 2023. As they gear up for the upcoming season, the team aims to build on past performances and make a strong impact in the tournament.
