Mumbai Indians: 'I think we can just be 1 or 2% better,' Trent Boult said after the Saturday evening match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans.

Mumbai Indians definitely had no desire to start the IPL 2025 campaign with back-to-back defeats. After Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans were also able to leave Mumbai Indians behind. A team with so much talent and experience, why is lacking performance in the field? Boult feels that only a 1 or 2% improvement can change the scenario.

Mumbai Indians have to face Kolkata Knight Riders tomorrow (March 31) at the Wankhede Stadium, only a day between two matches. In the meantime, Mumbai Indians need to address their drawbacks and do the needful to find their first win of the IPL 2025.

"“Well, they (Gujarat Titans) got 36 more runs than us. That's what went wrong. I think we can just be 1 or 2% better. They took the pace out of the ball, making the batters play big shots combined with scoreboard pressure; that's just good cricket," experienced Trent Boult said.

“I think the fielding is a part of the game that can never be excused. I think we're a little bit off the field today. Take a catch there on the boundary. Save a couple of boundaries. You know, there are maybe 20 or 30 runs there. So, yeah, time to move on and look forward to doing that."

Boult clearly said about two possible drawbacks of Mumbai Indians defeat against GT: one is fielding and another part is the bowling. Agility in fielding and a situation-wise bowling can make a difference between two teams. By saving some runs, Mumbai Indians batters can feel more comfortable with the bat.

If we take a look at the Gujarat Titans bowling stats, we can see only Kagiso Rabada bowled over 10 economy rate. The other 5 GT bowlers combined coincide with a little over 7 runs per over. On the other hand, Satyanarayana Raju from Mumbai Indians gifted over 13 runs in each over, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman's economy rate was 14.00. The other four Mumbai Indians bowlers combined produced over an 8 economy rate.
