Mumbai Indians registered a 9-run win over Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur in Chandigarh in the 33rd match of the ongoing IPL 2024. Suryakumar Yadav smashed a stunning fifty and Bumrah-Coetzee helped the side win convincingly.
Punjab Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first. Put into bat, MI openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma didn’t have a great start as Ishan got out for a mere 8. However, Rohit steadied the ship with Suryakumar Yadav and both the batters took on every Punjab Kings bowler and added 81 runs for the second wicket.
However, in this partnership, Yadav was the front-runner and the former captain successfully played the anchor’s role. He got out after scoring 36 off 25 with 2 fours and 3 sixes. However, Suryakumar Yadav tried to steady the ship and found support in Tilak Varma who remained unbeaten at 34 off 18 with 2 fours and as many sixes.

Meanwhile, Yadav smashed a quick 78 off 53 with 7 fours and 3 sixes, no other batter could manage to contribute much with the bat. And, they finished at 192 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. For PBKS, Harshal Patel claimed 3 for 31.
While chasing, Punjab Kings had the worst possible start as their opener Sam Curran got out for 6. On the other hand, another opener Prabhsimran Singh got out on a duck. Their middle-order batters Rilee Rossouw and Liam Livingstone also failed to contribute as they managed a mere 1 run each.
However, it was Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma who anchored the run-chase in the middle overs. While the former scored a quick 41 off 25 with 2 fours and 3 sixes, the latter scored a stunning 61 off 28 with 2 fours and 7 sixes.
But his effort went in vain as tailenders couldn’t support him and they got all out in 19.1 over, scoring 183 and Mumbai Indians eventually won by 9 runs. For MI, Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowler, claiming 3 for 21 in his allotted 4 overs.
