Mumbai Indians registered a convincing win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in the 55th match of the ongoing IPL 2024. Suryakumar Yadav smashed a swashbuckling century and helped the team win.

Pat Cummins starred with the bat

Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl first. Put into bat, Sunrisers Hyderabad openers got off to a flying start. While Travis Head maintained his good form, Abhishek Sharma couldn’t do well but they added 56 runs within 5.5 overs. Head smacked a swashbuckling 48 off 30 with 7 fours and 1 six. But Abhishek couldn’t do much as he got out for a mere 11 off 16.

However, after their dismissals, middle-order couldn’t contribute much until the captain Pat Cummins stepped in. He scored 35 off 17 with 2 fours and 2 sixes. His contribution helped the team post a modest total of 173 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Both Hardik Pandya and Chawla picked up 3 wickets each.

Suryakumar Yadav smashed a hundred

While chasing, Mumbai Indians had the worst possible start as their opener Ishan Kishan got out for a mere 9. Meanwhile, another opener Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 4 off 5. Soon, Naman Dhir got out on a 9-ball duck.

However, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma steadied the ship in the middle and they both smashed quickfire knocks as well. They added 143 runs. Yadav smashed 12 fours and 6 sixes whereas Varma also scored a quickfire 37 off 32. Their collective effort guided Mumbai Indians to the finish line comfortably with 7 wickets and 2.4 overs in hand.

After the win, Hardik Pandya said: “We want to focus on playing good cricket, still think we gave 10-15 runs extra. The way the batters batter, that was excellent. My bowling, I like to bowl in the right areas, I bowl according to the situation. Bowled in the right areas today and it worked. I was like Chawla had to bowl from the shorter side. You got to be accurate, the margin of errors have become smaller these days for the bowlers. It’s unbelievable, the best past of SKY is that he puts the bowlers under pressure. It’s sheer confidence, his game has changed, is one of the best batters. He can change a game in a different way, lucky to have him (SKY) in our side.”
