Royal Challengers Bengaluru wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik has recently opened up on his cricketing career and shared that he wants to play for Chennai Super Kings. He also added that Mumbai Indians could help him to grow and become a better player than he is today.
However, Dinesh Karthik has not played any international match since India’s defeat in the last edition of the T20 World Cup which was played in Australia and India lost in the semifinal against England as well.
“I don’t have much regrets in my cricket career – one will be the fact that I didn’t want to get retained in 2013, MI could have really helped me grow & become an even better player and second will be I couldn’t be part of CSK but I respect them a lot as they bid for me everytime,” said Dinesh Karthik on Ravichandran Ashwin’s youtube channel.
Notably, Dinesh Karthik is currently playing for RCB where he scored 90 runs in five matches so far as well and as per reports, this is his last season as a player in the Indian Premier League.
However, Karthik has played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), and later he led Kolkata Knight Riders as well. Moreover, he is also among those seven players who have participated in every IPL season since its beginning in 2008 – MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Wriddhiman Saha and Manish Pandey.

However, out of all 16 IPL seasons, Karthik has missed only two matches. The first one came in his debut season, against Kolkata Knight Riders, and the second one was in 2023 when he didn’t play in the league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad as well. Meanwhile, this is his second stint with the RCB as they bought him for a whopping Rs 10.5 crore as well earlier in 2015.
Notably, ahead of the 2022 edition of the IPL, he was released by KKR and RCB bought him for INR 5.5 crore. He led in 43 matches in the IPL where he was the stand-in captain for Delhi Daredevils in 6 games and the rest of the games were for KKR, having a record of 21 wins, 21 losses, and one tied match as well.
During his tenure as a captain of KKR, he had a chat with Kuldeep Yadav, who was going through a rough time and things weren’t smooth between them as well. He said, “There were some tough conversations with him. I don’t think he would’ve appreciated me at that stage but I had to be just honest with him.”
“RCB Fans will abuse me in DMs everyday and they will go hard at me, if I don’t do well for the team. not just me, my family and whoever is possible in my life,” he further added.
