Indian Premier League 2022, Match 50: Mumbai Indians went up against Gujrat Titans at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. After GT invited MI to bat first, Mohammed Shami will start with the ball in hand. Mumbai will start with skipper Rohit Sharma and keeper-batsman Rishabh Pant. For the first delivery, Ishan is on strike. Shami gets things started with a wide down the leg side, but the rest of the over is clean. Following a slow start in the first over, Rohit decided to attack the opposition in the second over, collecting successive boundaries in the first two balls before finishing the over with the evening’s first six. After a couple more safe overs with MI at 74/0, Rashid struck with the breakthrough in the eighth over, denying Rohit a half-century after a fantastic start. He attempts a reverse sweep, but the ball slips through his gloves and lands on his leg in front of off. Rashid bowls an outstanding over, dismissing Rohit with the third delivery and ending the 74-run opening stand. 14 overs of progressively playing it from MI We get Pollard, who exits soon after hitting a four, since the West Indian’s problems continue as Rashid builds pressure on him with four successive dots before catching him off guard with a ripper in the fifth that ends his innings. Ferguson delivers the penultimate over for MI as the innings nears its conclusion. Varma is duped by a slower ball that nearly catches him off guard. As the Kiwi pacer decides to pick up the tempo, Varma answers with a terrific straight drive. Varma, on the other hand, is caught short of the non-end striker’s while attempting a dangerous due to a direct hit from mid-off by Pandya. The ball was delivered to Varma as a full toss above waist, and the umpire signals a no-ball, with David slamming the ball over far for a six in the free-hit. Takes the fourth for a single. Ferguson dispatches Sams with his final delivery of the evening, and Rashid collects his third catch. The over yielded 12 runs and two wickets. After being called in to bat by the Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians conclude on 177/6 after Shami bowls the final over.

Gujarat Titans’ chase of the 178-run mark begins with Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill, with Daniel Sams slated to deliver the first over of the innings. Daniel Sams gets off to a great start, giving out only one run in his first over and mixing his lengths nicely. Jasprit Bumrah bowls from the other end in the second over, and unlike Sams, he’s off to a costly start, as Saha hits fours off the first and last balls of the over. Following the trend of this over, they score steadily, and in the sixth over, Ashwin comes in from a different end. SIX! In the first ball of the over, Gill decides he’s had enough of waiting and throws the slog sweep. Two balls later, drills the ball past midoff to set up the fifty stand with Saha. FIFTY FOR WRIDDHIMAN SAHA after a few more overs of playing it great but safe from the tandem! For the second time this season, and the tenth time overall in the IPL, the GT keeper-batter reaches the century mark in 34 balls! In the process, he also collects a single off the last ball of the 11th over, bringing up the century opening stand. Shubman Gill adds to his half-century with a single in the next at-bat – his third of the season and his 13th overall in the league! After Ashwin’s double strike in the previous over, Meredith returns in the 14th over, putting pressure on the Titans. Sai Sudharsan’s innings comes to an end in the following over, when he hits the stumps with his own bat while trying to hook a short ball from Pollard, resulting in the first hit-wicket dismissal of the season! After the penultimate over, GT just needs 9 from 6 to win the match. With David Miller and Rahul Tewatia at the crease, Gujarat needed nine runs off the last six balls to win. Despite this, they fell five runs short. Daniel Sams was very exceptional. Mumbai wins their second game in a row. This one reminds us of some of the spectacular finishes they used to have back in the day. And it’s a complete 180 for the Australian left-arm seamer, who makes up for being hammered all over the field by fellow Aussie Pat Cummins in KKR’s shock defeat earlier this season. The Mumbai Indians beat the Gujarat Titans by 5 runs. Tim David was named Player of the Match after scoring an undefeated 44 off just 21 balls!
