Talented Mumbai allrounder Musheer Khan suffered neck injuries during a road accident in Lucknow on Friday. However, Musheer was going to Lucknow from Azamgarh, his hometown, for the Irani Cup beginning on October 1 and he is likely to be ruled out of the game and the first few rounds of the Ranji Trophy as well.

However, ESPNcricinfo has learnt that Musheer was travelling with his father along with two others when their car, a Toyota Fortuner, collided and toppled, as per eyewitness and a member of the traffic directorate of Lucknow Police as well. While Musheer was taken to hospital and treated for a concussion, the exact nature of the injury is yet to be known as well.

Musheer Khan will be out of action for quite some time now

It is also learnt that Musheer Khan will be flown back to Mumbai soon, where he will be checked into a BCCI-mandated hospital for a detailed assessment as well. The BCCI and NCA's medical panel are aware of this case.

However, Musheer Khan was set to play for Mumbai in the first-class tournament that will take place at the Ekana Stadium. However, after the Irani game, Mumbai will start their Ranji campaign on October 11 against Baroda as well. The injury comes as a setback for the youngster following a roaring start to his first-class career. He already has scored three centuries and a half-century in nine first-class matches as well. This includes a double-hundred in last season's Ranji Trophy quarter-final, a fifty in the semi-final and a match-winning hundred in the final against Vidarbha as well.

Sarfaraz Khan has been released from the Test squad in Kanpur

Earlier this month, the star batter began the new domestic season with a stunning 181 in the Duleep Trophy against a strong India A attack comprising Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed and Kuldeep Yadav as well. Meanwhile, his older brother and India batter Sarfaraz Khan has been released from the Test squad in Kanpur to take part in the Irani Cup. However, Sarfaraz's availability was subject to him not being picked in India's playing XI for the second Test against Bangladesh as well.

However, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is yet to name a replacement for Musheer Khan in the squad which will be led by veteran India batter Ajinkya Rahane.
