Dale Steyn, the former South African fast bowler and ex-Sunrisers Hyderabad coach, had made a big prediction. He tweeted last month, “Small prediction. April 17 we'll see the first 300 in IPL. Who knows, I might even be there to see it happen.” His confidence made fans believe something special was coming.
And why not? SRH had recently smashed 286/6 against Rajasthan Royals the second-highest score in IPL history. They also hold four of the top five highest scores in the league. With big hitters like Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and Ishan Kishan, the team looked more than capable of reaching the 300 mark in the 33 match against MI in IPL 2025.
At the halfway stage of the innings, SRH are 76/2 after 10.1 overs far from where they needed to be. Abhishek Sharma gave them a good start with 40 off 28 balls, but his wicket, followed by Ishan Kishan’s early wicket for just 2 runs, slowed things down for them. Travis Head, usually known for his quick starts, has been unusually slow with 25 off 25 balls, and Nitish Reddy hasn’t looked comfortable, scoring just 4 from 6 balls.

The current run rate is not good just 7.48, which is not enough to even think about 300. In fact, even reaching 200 from here will be tough. This is especially surprising since the match is being played at the Wankhede Stadium a ground known for high scores. But SRH’s top order hasn’t made the most of it. Head hasn’t played with his usual attacking style, Ishan couldn’t carry forward his form from the last game, and Nitish hasn't looked settled at all.
No 300 today unfortunately

To make things tougher, Mumbai Indians have bowled really well. Jasprit Bumrah, and MI bowlers have kept SRH batters tight and haven’t allowed the SRH batters to break free. So, while Steyn’s prediction had everyone excited, the reality has turned out very different. SRH’s batters haven’t delivered, and the dream of a 300-run innings will have to wait for another day.
