Indian right-arm fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah created history by winning the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year 2024 award. It was very expected as the right-arm fast bowler dominated throughout the year.

Jasprit Bumrah recorded 71 Test wickets in 2024

The year 2024 experienced an incredible performance from Jasprit Bumrah with the ball in hand. In 2024 Test cricket, he finished as the leading wicket-taker with 71 wickets in 13 Tests with an average of 14.92 and an economy rate of 2.96. The second-leading wicket-taker in the year, Gus Atkinson was far away despite his strong performances with 52 wickets in 11 Tests. 

In 2024, Bumrah recorded five fifers in Test cricket. With 71 Test wickets in 2024, the right-arm fast bowler recorded the fifth most Test wickets by an Indian bowler in a calendar year. 

During the home Test series against England in early 2024, Bumrah finished as the third leading wicket-taker with 19 wickets in four Tests, where India won the Test series by 4-1.

While four out of five Tests in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia were played in 2024, Bumrah finished that Test series with 32 Test wickets, a record for an Indian bowler with the most wickets in a Test series outside India. Although India lost that trophy after losing the away Test series by 3-1, Bumrah undoubtedly won the Player of the Series award.
