Battling back from a tough first innings, India’s innings gained significant momentum thanks to Rishabh Pant’s audacious shot-making. In the 87th over, with the new ball in play, New Zealand pacer Tim Southee bowled a length delivery only to see Pant go down on one knee and slog-sweep it over square leg for a massive 107-meter six. The breathtaking shot stunned fans and players alike, even leaving New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips, stationed at the boundary, watching helplessly as the ball sailed out of the ground.

Pant misses century by 1 run, dismissed for 99

Despite his sensational six, Pant’s innings came to an unfortunate end just two overs later. In the 89th over, New Zealand's William O'Rourke bowled a rising delivery with the second new ball that caught Pant off guard. Misjudging the bounce, Pant inside-edged the ball onto his stumps and was dismissed for 99, missing out on a well-deserved century. As he walked off the field to the applause of the crowd, India’s score stood at 433/5, with a slender lead of 82 runs. Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten at 4, holding India’s hopes for further resistance.
