Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan shared a hilarious meme on his mix-up and verbal spat with his brother Yousuf Pathan in the middle during the World Championship of Legends (WCL) match against South Africa recently. Interestingly after that the duo helped India beat Australia in the semi-final with their batting showcase.
Taking to Instagram, Pathan posted a video of him and Yusuf having a spat while attempting a run, with the caption “Brothers when they are alone”. Later on, they were seen sharing a hug, titled “Brothers in front of parents”. Poking fun at the fights they had between are common within any household, Pathan wrote in the caption, “Brothers can you relate” as well.
While South Africa Champions defeated India Champions, Australia Champions prevailed over West Indies Champions in the last two league matches of the World Championship of Legends 2024 at County Ground, Northampton on Wednesday. Eventually India and Australia met for the second semi-final whereas Pakistan beat West Indies in the first semi-final.
The controversy erupted earlier during the match between India and South Africa Champions where the Pathan brothers came at loggerheads over a miscommunication that saw the former’s run out. The incident happened on the first ball of the 19th over when Irfan played a lofted shot off Dale Steyn’s delivery.
However, the ball landed safely between two fielders, leading Irfan and Yusuf to attempt a risky second run as well. Irfan was determined to go for it, but Yusuf hesitated initially after agreeing, which saw Irfan’s dismissal as Steyn swiftly collected the ball and dislodged the bails as well.
The mix-up in the middle left Irfan visibly frustrated, and he didn’t hold back from expressing his state towards Yusuf. This unfortunate run-out added to the pressure on India, who were already struggling to score against South Africa’s formidable total of 210/8.
Meanwhile this did not stop India from facing Australia in the semi-final. The match saw India setting a massive score of 254/6 on board, thanks to Yuvraj Singh (59 off 28), Yusuf Pathan (51* off 23), and Irfan Pathan (50 off 19) as the captain, Robin Uthappa scored the highest (65 off 35) at the top.
In reply, Australia started losing request wickets from the beginning of their chase. Tim Paine scored an unbeaten 40 but that did not help much. India beat Australia eventually by 86 runs. They will now meet the arch-rivals Pakistan in the final today in Birmingham.
