Following Inzamam-ul-Haq’s recent resignation over conflict of interest allegations, former Test off-spinner Tauseef Ahmed steps into the interim chief selector position for the upcoming Australian Test series. This key development in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) underscores Tauseef Ahmed’s debut as head of the selection committee, a role of significant responsibility, especially in shaping the team for the upcoming tour.
The newly constituted selection committee features notable members, including Tauseef Ahmed and Wajahatullah Wasti, with specific tasks assigned to senior selectors like Wasim Haider. The junior selection committee comprises Aamer Nazir, Javed Hayat, Mahmood Hamid, Naveed Latif, Salman Ahmed, and Sana Baloch.
Inzamam-ul-Haq’s resignation was prompted by allegations regarding his ties to a UK-based players’ agency, leading the PCB to initiate an investigation. A five-member investigative committee has been established to delve into Inzamam’s association with the said agency, with findings expected to be submitted to PCB CEO Zaka Ashraf by November 6.
Amidst ongoing ICC World Cup proceedings in India, the selection of players for the national Test team’s Australia tour becomes a crucial focus. Tauseef Ahmed’s interim appointment is seen as a prudent measure to ensure a responsible leader oversees the situation and makes optimal selections for the upcoming Australian tour. The PCB is poised to entrust Tauseef Ahmed with the interim chief selector role, considering the evolving scenario.
