In a surprising turn of events, the International Cricket Council reportedly did not feel the need to invite any officials of the PCB on stage during the Champions Trophy closing ceremony function in Dubai. The PCB cheif Mohsin Naqvi was conspicuous by his absence from the occasion. This raised quite a few eyebrows mainly because the Chief Executive Officer of the PCB, Sumair Ahmed who also happens to be the tournament director, was present at the venue and yet was excluded from the main proceedings.

Reports further add that the identity of PCB officials was mainly ignored by the ICC, which has sparked conversation among the circles of cricket. Since Pakistan is a proponent of the cricketing fraternity that played a significant role in organizing the tournament, such avoidance of its representatives in the function had lead to speculation about some undisclosed cold war between PCB and ICC.

The ICC's move might as well be viewed as a "diplomatic snub, or perhaps indeed", some overview of bigger governance matters. Thus, the exclusion of PCB officials might have further-contained long-lasting implications for ICC-PCB relations, looking ahead to the next Champions Trophy that Pakistan is to host. These incidents also bring fore problems regarding transparency and propriety within the nuanced administration of the world game.
