Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his sadness over Vinesh Phogat's disqualification from the Paris Olympics. Phogat, competing in the women's 50kg category, was disqualified for being 100 grams overweight on the day of the competition. She was replaced by Cuban wrestler Yusneylis Guzman Lopez.

Ashwin reflects on Vinesh Phogat's Olympic disqualification and retirement

For many athletes, the Olympics are the pinnacle of their sporting careers, as Ashwin pointed out. He noted that the decision would be devastating for Vinesh to accept. In light of recent events, Vinesh has also announced her retirement from the sport.

“It’s grueling—four to eight years of intense training that Olympic athletes undergo like a meditative ritual. These athletes dedicate countless years to perfecting their craft. If Vinesh had competed, she likely would have brought home multiple medals for our country,” Ashwin remarked on his YouTube channel.
