Rachin Ravindra made his New Zealand debut in their Test series against India in Kanpur on Thursday, November 25, following his appearance in the first of a three-match T20I series against India last week. He will be New Zealand’s fifth bowling option in the first Test match.
As a result, former BlackCaps cricketer Rahul Dravid’s name appears on the jersey of Team India, which is coached by Rahul Dravid. It is said that the name combines Rahul’s ‘Ra’ with Sachin Tendulkar’s ‘chin’.
Born in New Zealand’s capital city of Wellington, Ravindra Krishnamurthy is the son of Indian parents Ravi Krishnamurthy and Deepa Krishnamurthy. In 2016 and 2018, he represented New Zealand in the U19 World Cup. His off-seasons were spent playing in India. On November 20, 2020, he was named in the New Zealand A team for practice matches following his List A debut against Pakistan. During the June World Test Championship (WTC) in England, he played for the Kiwis again.
As for his international debut, it took place against Bangladesh in September 2021 during a five-match Twenty20 series, which New Zealand eventually lost 2-3. Ravindra is the 282nd player to play Test cricket for the Kiwis. It will be fascinating to see if the young man can lead the Kiwis to victory or not in Kanpur.
