The last two years have been pretty solid for Rachin Ravindra. From making his Test debut in Kanpur to scoring 500+ runs in his first World Cup, in front of packed Indian crowds, Rachin Ravindra has seen the spotlight early.

The World Cup is over but Rachin Ravindra still remains in the subcontinent. A Test series in Bangladesh is on the horizon and after that, New Zealand will be going up against Bangladesh once again at home in a white-ball series. With the amount of cricket being played around the world transitioning from white-ball to red-ball cricket is not seen as much of a big deal now.

At Ravindra’s age in particular it is a challenge he would enjoy. At 24, most would want to travel as much as possible and play all the cricket they can. Rachin Ravindra seems to be no different. He has played a Test in the subcontinent, and now, two years older, he will be eager to see if he can make changes to his returns in the longest format.

In all likelihood though, Rachin Ravindra is likely to bat at a different position for the Test. He opened or went in at three for most of the tournament. For Tests though, he is likely to drop down and his bowling will be given a bigger Test. While the team does have three other spinners, Rachin Ravindra’s batting will force him into the eleven while his bowling too will give him a lot of work.

Considering Bangladesh in particular, the tracks will spin a lot more. With extra spin on offer, the third spinner’s role will be a huge factor. Rachin Ravindra has experience in Bangladesh. He was there for five T20s in 2021. It was an interesting series with the tracks taking a lot of spin, and looking like a minefield for the batters.

At the World Cup too, Rachin Ravindra did a fair bit of bowling. Not among the wickets, there were some solid spells. He finished with economical returns, going at 5.98, a decent number filling in as a fifth bowler.

He waits for the Test to begin. With Saqlain Mushtaq back for support it will be interesting to see what kind of work they put on his spin bowling.
