India’s win at the T20 World Cup 2024 was a special farewell gift for head coach Rahul Dravid, whose coaching term ended on Saturday. Dravid watched proudly as the team lifted the coveted ICC title.

In his farewell speech, Dravid humbly acknowledged his achievements and the challenges he faced. “I tried my best whenever I played,” he said, his voice steady but filled with emotion. He thanked his family, coaches, and fans for their unwavering support throughout his career.

A triumphant farewell for Rahul Dravid

Reflecting on the moment, Dravid said, “As a player, I never had the chance to win a trophy, but I always gave my best. It’s part of the game; many players haven’t won a trophy. I was lucky to get the opportunity to coach this team.”

He continued, “These boys made it possible for me to finally experience a win. It feels great, but I wasn’t seeking redemption. Coaching was just a job I was dedicated to doing well.”

With Rahul Dravid as coach, India reached three straight ICC finals, including the World Test Championship and last year’s ODI World Cup. They couldn’t beat Australia in either, so they had to wait for the big win in Barbados.

Dravid believes India will keep dominating cricket and expects them to win more trophies in the future.

“The boys nowadays, there is fantastic talent in the Indian cricket team. Their energy and confidence is on another level at this time…in the coming times, India will win so many trophies, in the next 5-6 years…,” he said.
