The clash between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024 witnessed an enthralling battle between bat and ball. In which, Rajasthan Royals (RR) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by six wickets in the 14th match of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) being played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, 1 April.
Rajasthan Royals showcased exceptional bowling prowess, spearheaded by pacer Trent Boult and spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. Boult’s fiery three-wicket burst within four deliveries in the first innings set the tone for Rajasthan Royals’ dominant display. Chahal complemented Boult’s performance with a pivotal three-fer, including the dismissals of MI skipper Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma.

In pursuit of a modest 126-run target set by Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians faced a batting collapse right from the start. Boult’s early breakthroughs rattled Mumbai’s top order, as Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir, and Dewald Brevis were dismissed for golden ducks.
Despite a brief resurgence led by Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, Mumbai Indians failed to capitalize on partnerships and succumbed to pressure. Pandya then gave MI a boost by smashing 16 runs off the last over of the powerplay and the five-time champions were 46/4 at the end of the sixth over.
Pandya and Tilak put up 56 runs off 36 balls for the fifth wicket before the MI captain fell for 34 off 21 to Yuzvendra Chahal, who then dismissed Varma shortly therafter for 34 off 21. Chahal got his third wicket in the death overs in the form of Gerald Coetzee. Tim David struggled to get going as well in the death overs, eventually falling for an uncharacteristically sluggish 17 off 24 balls.
Both teams relied heavily on their key players to deliver match-winning performances. While Rajasthan Royals banked on the bowling expertise of Boult and Chahal, Mumbai Indians pinned their hopes on the batting prowess of Pandya and Varma. However, it was the collective effort of the entire Rajasthan Royals’ bowling unit that proved decisive in clinching victory.
Jaiswal departed after scoring 10 runs off 6 deliveries, caught by Tim David at cover on the ball of South African pacer Kwena Maphaka. In the fifth over, Rajasthan suffered their second setback as Akash Madhwal bowled out RR captain Sanju Samson for a mere 12 runs from 10 deliveries. Meanwhile, opener Jos Buttler kept stealing runs.
Two overs later, English opener Jos Buttler also fell, managing only 13 runs from 16 balls. A short delivery from Madhwal tempted Buttler into a pull-shot, but instead, the ball ended up in Piyush Chawla’s hands at fine-leg.
Riyan Parag and R Ashwin teamed up for a 40-run partnership from 35 deliveries before Ashwin fell victim to Akash Madhwal, marking the bowler’s third wicket. The experienced all-rounder was caught by Tilak Varma after scoring a steady 16 runs.
Riyan Parag emerged as the hero for Rajasthan Royals with a stellar batting display. His composed innings of 54 runs from 39 deliveries anchored Rajasthan’s chase and guided the team to a convincing six-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians. Parag’s ability to hold his nerve under pressure and steer the innings to victory earned him well-deserved accolades.
