After Long time leap of a year, BCCI announced that the Ranji trophy will kick off starting from 13 January in Kolkata which will benefit hundreds of hardworking aspirants, coaches who make living on this tournament, and many bigshots like Rohit Sharma, Rishabh pant, Ajyinkya Rahane will show up in this competition.

After a five-day quarantine and two-day practice, the teams, divided into six groups, will play their matches in Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Trivandrum, and Chennai.

Kolkata has been held for the Ranji knockouts which are programmed to start from February 20 after another round of five-day quarantine. The five-day quarter-finals are from February 28 to March 3 and the semi-finals will be from March 8 to 12. The final has been scheduled for March 16-20.

In an exhaustive catalog of the domestic season, circulated among the state units on Monday (August 30), the BCCI has also familiarized the teams about the groupings. There are six groups in Ranji, including five Elite ones of six teams each and one plate group consisting of eight teams.

Group C appears to be the group of finish with former champions and domestic powerhouses Mumbai, Karnataka, and Delhi battered together along with Hyderabad, Maharashtra (also former champions), and Uttarakhand. Defending champions Saurashtra are in the picked D group with Tamil Nadu, Railways, J&K, Jharkhand, and Goa.

Other tournaments before Ranji trophy

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Twenty20 tournament starts on November 4 at six centers – Lucknow, Guwahati, Baroda, Delhi, Haryana (city not mentioned), and Vijayawada. The knockouts will be in Delhi from November 16 with the final slated for November 22. The BCCI has not intimated the venues of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 50-over competition. It will run from December 8 to 27.

The Men’s State A one-day competition is from November 20 to December 10 with matches in Rajkot, Pondicherry, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mohali, and Guwahati. The knockouts have been designated to Bangalore. Men’s Under-25 four-day championship for the CK Nayudu Trophy is from January 28 to March 31 with matches taking place at Nagpur, Hyderabad, Vijaywada, Mohali, Jaipur, and Ranchi. Vijaywada will host the knockouts.

The move to restart domestic cricket though comes as welcome news for thousands of cricketers, coaches, match officials, groundsmen, scorers, and others who are dependent on these earnings. “The BCCI is confident of hosting the domestic season with health and safety of players and all people involved being paramount,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement on Saturday.

Why the Ranji trophy had dissolved this year…?

This year due to many reasons including the corona pandemic Ranji Trophy was canceled and this was the biggest news around that time, in the history of 87 years first-time domestic cricket Tournament was canceled, the last Ranji trophy was played between 9 December 2019 – 13 March 2020 2019-20 and the team Saurashtra Awarded the trophy of winner competitor.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Under-19 One Day Fixtures will begin on September 28 and run till October 18, with teams split into five Elite Groups and one Plate Group. Rajkot, Nagpur, Bhubaneshwar, Vizag, Surat, and Jaipur will host all the matches, with Surat hosting the knockout phase, from October 11 after the teams complete a mandatory five-day quarantine period. The Senior Women’s One Day tournament gets underway on October 31, with Bangalore hosting the final, on November 20.

Elite B: Bengal, Vidarbha, Rajasthan, Kerala, Haryana, and Tripura (in Bangalore)

Elite C: Karnataka, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Maharashtra, and Uttarakhand (in Kolkata)

Elite D: Saurashtra, Tamil Nadu, Railways, J & K, Jharkhand, and Goa (in Ahmedabad)

Elite E: Andhra, Uttar Pradesh, Baroda, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Pondicherry (in Trivandrum)

Plate: Chandigarh, Meghalaya, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Arunachal (in Chennai)
