Indian cricket team wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has returned with the team for the upcoming England Test series on Thursday after recovering from COVID-19.

The Indian cricket team has been handed a boost as wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has returned to the squad after recovering from Covid-19. Pant had tested positive for the novel coronavirus on July 8 and was kept in isolation while being closely monitored by the BCCI Medical Team. He completed his mandatory isolation period of 10 days as per the UK guidelines and now has returned to the team on Thursday for the upcoming England Test series.

Pant was due to undergo COVID-19 and cardiac tests on Monday after testing positive for the virus during the team’s 20-day break post the World Test Championship final against New Zealand in Southampton.

Pant, who had not stayed in the team hotel during the 20-day break period, tested positive on July 8. He was asymptomatic and was in isolation. He was being closely monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and was on his way to recovery.

“He will be able to join the squad in Durham after returning two negative RT-PCR tests,” BCCI had said in a statement.

The BCCI Medical Team had also identified Bharat Arun, bowling coach, Wriddhiman Saha, and Abhimanyu Easwaran as close contacts of Dayanand Guarani (throwdown specialist cum masseur), who was in the team hotel when he tested positive following RT-PCR tests on July 14.

the four personnel are undergoing 10-day isolation and will remain in their respective rooms in the team hotel in London.

Pant, who tested positive for Covid-19 on July 8 has joined Team India’s bio-bubble in Durham.

Pant has completed his isolation period of 10 days as per the UK guidelines. He tested positive for the virus during the team’s 20-day break post the World Test Championship final against New Zealand in Southampton.

The entire Indian contingent including traveling family members and caretakers were administered the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine earlier this month in London. To mitigate any further risks, the Indian contingent is taking the Lateral Flow Test daily.

The Indian team is due to take on England in a five-match Test series starting August 4. They are playing a three-day practice game against County XI at Chester-le-Street as a build-up to the high-intensity series.

The India-England showdown marks the beginning of the second cycle of the World Test Championship.

Shubman Gill, meanwhile, would appear to be back home in India. A stress-related injury in his left leg had all but ruled him out of the Test series in England, but there were no official updates from the BCCI with regards to his fitness or even his whereabouts.

On Wednesday, however, Gill posted a pair of Instagram stories – an airport landing strip photographed through an airplane window, and a photograph of a cake with the message “Welcome home Shubi” piped on it, with the caption “my fam >>>>”, which indicated he was now back with his family.
