Shakera Selman had struck Jeminah Rodrigues‘ right wrist during India’s Commonwealth Games match versus Barbados. She finished with 146 runs, fifth-most in the competition, although playing with a bandaged wrist. Rodrigues opened the batting for this season’s Hundred against the defending champion Oval Invincibles, scoring 51 runs off just 32 balls, before being removed for two runs by the London Spirit. She led the Superchargers in scoring the previous season.

This is the second time Lewis is replacing an India player in the Hundred. Last year she was part of Southern Brave after Smriti Mandhana left for home towards the end of the league stages to prepare for India’s tour of Australia.

She will be available for the Superchargers clash against Birmingham Phoenix on August 19 and then for the match against Brave on August 31. Ireland and Netherlands play three ODIs in Amstelveen from August 22 to 26, for which Lewis will be on international duty.

Gaby Lewis will take her place, and she will only be available for the final two games of Ireland’s three-match ODI series against the Netherlands.

While representing India at the Commonwealth Games, she also displayed excellent bat form. She ended as the fifth-highest run scorer in the quadrennial competition with 146 runs from five games.

As one of the top performers in the competition, the player’s injury is a serious setback for the Northern Superchargers. The right-handed batter led the squad in run production during the competition’s first season, accumulating 249 runs from seven games at an incredible average of 41.50.

“Before the Hundred and the WBBL, I wasn’t having a good patch. As a person, it does affect me a lot, because I want to do well every time I am on the field. I was at a very low phase at that time. Low on confidence, didn’t have a lot of self-esteem,”

Rodrigues said in an interview with Hindustan Times.
