2012: A Star is Born – Rohit's First IPL Century Against KKR
Rohit Sharma's centuries in the IPL are enshrined in the volumes of IPL folklore, a contrast of raw genius and old-fashioned class. His first IPL century was a world-record 109 not out to lead the Mumbai Indians against the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012, and it was much more than a display of brute force, but a fully fledged attack on a historic bowling lineup with several greats of the game. Rohit made the majority of his runs against Brett Lee, Jacques Kallis, Shakib Al Hasan, and Sunil Narine - none of whom have been used to bowling chastisements from a player under extreme pressure. Rohit's innings, at Eden Gardens, was pivotal in his career as it only enhanced his stature as a player capable of changing the course of a match in either direction - an overhead of influence few would argue against.

Fast forward a good number of years, Rohit's second IPL century in the Wankhede Stadium against the Chennai Super Kings in 2024 demonstrated a class not diluted by both time moving on, nor an injury to his leg. All in all it confirmed it was another brilliant innings for Rohit Sharma - however it also put his name as the first Mumbai Indians player to have two hundred scores to their name, further enhancing his history at this level of playing cricket. Rohit Sharma has in essence been involved in IPL cricket, not just as a batsman, but a captain too; leading the Mumbai Indians in five of it's historic title wins. Rohit Sharma's hundreds have been more than mere written records.
