For the first time since being appointed captain of Team India in T20Is, Rohit Sharma addressed the media on Tuesday. The launch of the three-match T20I series against New Zealand, which begins on Wednesday in Jaipur, was preceded by a joint press conference with the newly appointed head coach of Team India, Rahul Dravid. In addition to answering many questions that came their way, both Rohit and Dravid discussed the team’s template in the shortest format moving forward as well as the importance of managing workload for players who play all three formats. Rohit said Kohli remains an important player for the team even though he is no longer the T20I captain.
According to Kohli, whatever he has done in the past, his role in the team remains the same. Players’ roles change based on match conditions, which is why the new captain is open to it.
There are some holes that need to be filled. Filling them will be our biggest challenge. I’m not going to say that we will follow the same template as other teams. Rather, we will do what we think is appropriate. The players have a different role in franchises, the national team, and Syed Mushtaq Ali. Rohit stressed that players need a specific role to fulfill in this sport.
There is no priority for us. All three formats are equally important for us. Obviously, since ICC tournaments are coming up, we must prepare for them as well. In terms of vision we will seek to improve overall,” Dravid concluded.
