The former captain of the Nepal cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane is expected to participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 after receiving clearance from the Patan High Court. The Kathmandu District Court had previously sentenced him to an 8-year term following allegations of sexual assault made by an underage girl.

The Nepal national team have already unveiled its T20 World Cup squad, with Rohit Paudel named as the captain. However, the ICC Board allows teams to make adjustments to their squads until May 25. Therefore, there is a possibility that he will be included in the national team for the T20 World Cup.

Nepal’s squad comprises players who showcased their skills in various matches, including the ACC Premier Cup in Oman and the ongoing T20I series against West Indies A in Kirtipur. The skipper of the team, Paudel has been at the forefront of the team’s batting performance, notably scoring a century in the first game of the five-match series against West Indies A.

All-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee secured his spot in the squad after his remarkable achievement of hitting six sixes in an over against Qatar in April, equaling a world record. Joining Nepal’s hard-hitting batting lineup are Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh, who are expected to feature prominently at the top of the order.

Gulshan Jha who was a member of Nepal’s U19 World Cup squad earlier this year, joins several young talents in the 15-player squad. Pratis GC, a 19-year-old left-arm pacer, has also been included in the squad for the prestigious tournament. In addition to youth, the squad includes experienced players such as Sompal Kami who is the only player from Nepal’s debut campaign in 2014, and fast bowling all-rounder Karan Khatri Chhetri, forming a formidable pace duo.

Lalit Rajbanshi who is a left-arm orthodox spinner, will lead Nepal’s spin attack. Nepal has been grouped with Bangladesh, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands in Group D. Their campaign will commence on June 4 against the Netherlands in Texas.
