On February 28th, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the yearly player contracts for senior Indian male cricketers covering the period of 2023-24.
Thirty Indian players were divided into four categories, with prominent figures such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja securing spots in the Grade A+ tier.
Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan, recent debutants for Team India in February, stand a chance to earn contracts if they fulfill specific criteria during India’s ongoing five-match Test series against England.
Both Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan debuted for Team India during the third Test of the ongoing series against England on February 15.Sarfaraz marked the occasion with impressive back-to-back 60-plus scores in Rajkot, contributing significantly to India’s resounding 434-run victory. Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel showcased his skills with a stellar performance, earning the ‘Player of the Match’ title in the subsequent Test at Ranchi.
With only two Tests under their belts, both Sarfaraz and Dhruv stand a chance to secure a BCCI contract if they are selected for India’s fifth and final Test against England.
According to the BCCI’s official statement, players who participate in a minimum of three Test matches within the specified period (October 1st, 2023, to September 30th, 2024) will be eligible for inclusion in the Grade C category on a pro-rata basis. Currently, the Grade C contract comprises 15 Indian players, including notable names such as Rinku Singh, Tilak Verma, Arshdeep Singh, Sanju Samson, KS Bharat, and Rajat Patidar, among others.
