Bangladesh all-rounder and politician Shakib Al Hasan is in danger, as an arrest warrant has been issued against him by a Dhaka court on Sunday (January 19).
According to a recent Cricbuzz report, an arrest warrant has been issued against Shakib and three other individuals in connection with a dishonoured cheque. IFIC Bank's Relationship Officer, Shahibur Rahman, has reportedly filed the case on behalf of the bank. The accusation is failing to honor a commitment to transfer BDT 4,14,57,000 via two separate cheques.

On Sunday, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman issued the arrest warrant order.
The former Awami League Member of Parliament, Shakib Al Hasan, has been staying outside Bangladesh since the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country during the student movement.
Shakib was named in the cheque fraud case on December 15, and on December 18, the court ordered him to be present before January 19, 2025.
The case is about Shakib’s company, Al Hasan Agro Farm Ltd., while its Managing Director Gazi Shahagir Hossein, and directors Emdadul Haque and Malaikar Begum are also under question. The company took loans at various times from IFIC Bank's Banani branch, but their recent cheques for a part of the repayment were dishounoured due to insufficient funds.
Former Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan retired from T20I last September, while he wished to play his last Test in Bangladesh, which is yet not possible. While he is officially active in the ODI format, he hasn't been selected for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to not being present with the team since his last Test in India, which ended on October 1, 2024. On the other hand, the 37-year-old left-arm spinner has also been suspended from bowling in top-flight domestic and international cricket for failing the recently concluded re-assessment test.
