Bangladesh’s star cricketer, Shakib Al Hasan, widely recognized as an all-rounder, is currently facing a significant setback in his career. This is the first time Shakib has faced a ban on his bowling after a long career since his debut in 2006. The first instance occurred in September 2024 during a county cricket match in England, where he was representing his club Surrey against Somerset. His action was found to be invalid during testing at Loughborough University, where the ECB clarified the suspension under ICC guidelines.

Shakib is now racing against time to clear his bowling action ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament, scheduled to begin on February 19, will be held in Pakistan and Dubai under a hybrid model. With the event being a major milestone for international cricket, Shakib is eager to contribute as an all-rounder. However, his suspension from bowling puts his spot in the Bangladesh ODI team at risk, especially since the team has younger and more versatile players who could replace him.

Shakib, who has retired from Test and T20I formats, is now solely focused on ODIs.
