Shreyas Iyer has been added to the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad for the semi-final against Tami Nadu. This comes after Jay Shah the BCCI secretary warned about the possible severe implications that players not taking part in domestic cricket might have to face.

Shreyas Iyer match fit for Ranji semi-final

Mumbai will be taking on Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy semi-final at the MCA-BKC ground starting on Saturday. Shreyas Iyer skipped the Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Baroda citing back pain that eventually created a controversy. Nitin Patel, the head of sports science and medicine at the National Cricket Academy in an email to selectors had confirmed that Shreyas Iyer was fit and had no fresh injury.

According to the Indian Express Patel had written: “Shreyas Iyer was fit and available for selection as per the handover report of the Indian team after the 2nd Test match against England. There are currently no fresh injuries reported as well after his departure from Team India.”

Jay Shah’s warning for cricketers not playing domestic cricket

Meanwhile, the BCCI secretary Jay Shah warned that centrally contracted and A team players could face severe implications for non-participation in domestic cricket. This came after Ishan Kishan not playing for Jharkhand after withdrawing from the South Africa tour due to personal reasons. He was then seen training with Hardik Pandya ahead of the IPL 2024.

Washington Sundar, who was also part of the Test squad without getting a game, has been released and will be part of Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy.
