Gujarat Titans have returned to the winning zone after a thrilling last-ball finish courtesy of the all-rounder Rashid Khan, who hit Avesh Khan for a boundary of the final ball with GT requiring two runs to win. However, GT chased down Rajasthan Royal’s total of 196 with three wickets in hand for their third win of the season, while RR faced their first defeat.
However, Shubman Gill set up the chase with a stunning 44-ball 72 at the top of the order and after a bit of losing wickets in the middle overs, GT reached the target by lower-order contributions from Rahul Tewatia (22* off 11) and Khan (24* off 11).
From a healthy 64/0 in the 9th over, GT struggled to 111/4 by the 14th over and were further dismantled by leg-spinner Yuzverndra Chahal’s double strike and one point it seemed GT would lose the game as they needed 35 runs off the last two overs to win.

However, pacer Kuldeep Sen, who had claimed three wickets earlier, gave away 20 runs in the 19th over of the match, and then Khan smashed 15 runs which were required in the final over bowled by Avesh Khan as well.
“We were targetting 45 in 3 overs and it is very much gettable and that was the mindset at that time. Mathematically both batters needed to hit 22 off 9 balls and that’s how the thinking goes and if one batter goes berserk that will do,” GT skipper Gill said during the post-match presentation.
However, it was Shubman Gill’s reply when commentator Harsha Bhogle mentioned that it felt GT had left it too late to push for a win, and the captain gave an epic response.
Bhogle asked, “Well done you got 2 points today. But I must admit some of us thought you left it too late but well done today.” Gill replied, “Thank you, when GT is playing don’t think like that, eh”.
“Very happy with Rahul and Rashid bhai for finishing the job for us. Winning the ball off the last ball is always a great feeling. He (Rashid Khan) is someone who you always want in your team, he is such a competitor,” Shubman Gill added.
