Skipper Jasprit Bumrah restricted Australia to 19-3 in Perth. The hosts dismissed Team India to 150 in the first innings with Josh Hazlewood claiming four wickets. Usman Khawaja and Debutant Nathan McSweeney opened the innings for the Aussies. The debutant started on a good with two boundaries one off Bumrah and another off Siraj. Skipper Bumrah moved the ball inside McSweeney and looked to defend but it was straight onto his pads. Team India sent it upstairs and the third umpire had to reverse his decision. Two balls later it could have been the second one for Bumrah as Marnus Labuschagne nipped it into the slips but Virat Kohli couldn't grab that as it hit his palm and popped out.

In the 6th over Bumrah got rid of another Opener Usman Khawaja. This time it was straight to Virat and he didn't make a mistake. The very next ball he dismissed Steve Smith for a golden duck. Smith went on to defend by just coming slightly toward offside and Bumrah got him for a plumb LBW.
Stand-in Captain Jasprit Bumrah opted to Bat in Perth but it didn't go their way. As the visitors were bundled out for just 150 in 49.4 overs. Pacer Josh Hazlewood picked up four wickets and Starc, Cummins, and Marsh picked up 2 each. The debutant Nitish Reddy was the top scorer for Team India as he scored 41 off 59. Wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant entertained everybody with a knock of 37 off 78 balls, including that extraordinary Six off Cummins over a fine leg boundary. Opening batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal failed to get off the mark as they were dismissed for 0(8) and 0(23) respectively.
