Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced a strong 15-member squad for the upcoming home three-match ODI series against Pakistan.
After the conclusion of the ongoing home T20I series against Pakistan, South Africa and Pakistan will face off in the ODI series. Paarl will host the first ODI on December 17, while Cape Town and Johannesburg will host the next two ODIs on December 19 and 22, respectively.

The latest ODI squad has experienced nine changes from the previous ODI squad, which faced Ireland in Abu Dhabi and Proteas won that three-match ODI series by 2-1. Apart from the skipper Temva Bavuma, Kagiso Rabada, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Marco Jansen have returned to the ODI squad along with the uncapped Kwena Maphaka.
Due to injury issues of Proteas fast bowlers Anrich Nortje (broken toe), Lungi Ngidi (hip injury), Gerald Coetzee (groin injury), Wiaan Mulder (broken finger), and Nandre Burger (lower back stress fracture), the 18-year-old left-arm fast bowler Kwena Maphaka has earned the national team call-up. He won the Player of the Tournament award for finishing as the leading wicket-taker (21 wickets) in the ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2024. He has already played four T20Is, where the teenager picked up three wickets. When he made his T20I debut last August against West Indies, he became the youngest South African cricketer to make an international cricket debut. He has already taken 30 wickets in 22 T20 matches.
Talking about the important names drop, the top-order batter Reeza Hendricks has lost his place after failing to score at least 20 runs in his last five ODI innings. The 35-year-old right-handed batter is struggling to perform in recent times.
Although Tabraiz Shamsi has decided to not join the central contract last October, the 34-year-old left-arm spinner has been included in the ODI squad. He last played an ODI in December 2023, when India toured South Africa.
