Sunrisers Hyderabad registered a 67-run win over Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi in the 35th match of the ongoing IPL 2024. Travis Head and Shahbaz Ahmed smashed quick fifties and T Natarajan claimed a four-fer and helped the team win.

Travis Head starred with the bat

Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first. Put into bat, SRH openers got off to a flying start. Both Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma maintained their rich form and a massive 131 runs within 6.1 overs. Abhishek Sharma smacked a swashbuckling 46 off 12 with 2 fours and 6 sixes, Head managed another good knock of 89 off 32 with 11 fours and 6 sixes as well.

However, after their dismissals, middle-order couldn’t contribute much until Nitish Reddy and Shahbaz Ahmed stepped in. While the former managed 37 off 27, the latter smashed a 29-ball 59 with 2 fours and 5 sixes as well. And, they managed to post 266 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

For Delhi Capitals, Kuldeep Yadav took a four-fer but gave away 55 runs as well.

Jake Fraser-McGurk scored quick fifty

While chasing, Delhi Capitals had the worst possible start as their opener David Warner got out for a mere 1. Although Prithvi Shaw tried to score quickly with a 5-ball 16, his stay in the middle was cut short by Washington Sundar.

However, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel steadied the ship in the middle and added 84 runs before the former got out for a quickfire 65-run knock which came off 18 balls with 5 fours and 7 sixes as well. Abishek Porel also scored a quickfire 42 off 22.

On the other hand, Rishabh Pant also tried his best with a 44-run knock off 35 balls with 5 fours and a six. But their efforts weren’t enough as other batters failed to contribute and they eventually lost the game. T Natarajan did exceptionally well with a 4/19.

Rishabh Pant, DC Captain said after the match- “I think the only thought process behind it was there could be dew which didn’t come (on choosing to bowl first), but we would still have had a chance had we restricted them to 220-230. The powerplay was the difference, they got (125) runs and we ended up playing catching up after that.

The ball stopped more in the 2nd innings, that was more than we anticipated, but when we needed to chase 260, 270, you’ll need to keep scoring. Hopefully, we’ll come up with more thought process and a clear mindset going forward. His batting has been phenomenal (on Fraser-McGurk), he’s been nice for us, that’s what we need to do as a team, be together, look at areas where we can improve going into the next game.”
